The Brooklyn Bridge is located over the East River which runs from Manhattan Street to Adams Street. It is also known as a cultural icon, and it is a famous landmark. The bridge was built in 1867, and is decorated with gothic towers created entirely of granite. The bridge formally opened in 1883, and allows for a magnificent view of Manhattan and the harbor.
2. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE (SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA)
Golden Gate Bridge is located in San Francisco, California. This suspension bridge was finished in 1937. It connects the city of San Francisco to the city of Sausalito, California. The bridge has been a central point in many films from Dirty Harry, A View to a Kill, and The Love Bug.
3. CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE-TUNNEL (VIRGINIA)
Another famous bridge in USA is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It shows the mighty surge of the Atlantic Ocean, the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. It is the soaring elegance of an engineering marvel. It is a tourist attraction and a travel convenience. It joins Virginia's Eastern Shore with the Virginia mainland at Virginia Beach near Norfolk, Virginia.
4. VERRANZO-NARROWS BRIDGE (NEW YORK)
The bridge is the initial point for the coveted New York City Marathon. It was the world's largest suspension bridge until 1981. Now it is the largest in the United States and the eighth largest in the world. The Verranzo-Narrows Bridge was projected by Othmar Amman, and opened in 1964.
5. ROYAL GORGE BRIDGE (COLORADIO)
Royal Gorge Bridge is the world's highest suspension bridge. It is located in Canon City, Colorado. It is 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River. Its construction started on June 5, 1929 and was finished 5 months later. It has a width of 18 feet and is 1,260 feet long.
6. SNAKE RIVER BRIDGE (WASHINGTON)
Snake River Bridge connects Pasco to Burbank and is located near Starbuck, Washington. Its total is 2,040 feet. The construction started in the year 1926 and was completed in 1927, but it was opened in 1968.
7. FAYETTE STATION BRIDGE (WEST VIRGINIA)
The Fayette Station Bridge is in West Virginia and connects the towns of Fayette and South Fayette. It was constructed in 1889. Reconstruction of the bridge took place between 1997 and 1998, and was rededicated on November 8, 1998.
Neuse River Bridge is located 20 miles away from Atlantic Ocean in New Bern, North Carolina. The total cost of the bridge was $120,000,000 and is estimated that 55,000 vehicles cross the river per day. The design of the bridge gave several challenges to the designers.
